Do I Qualify?

There is no single income cutoff for Kentucky Medicaid. How much you can earn and still qualify depends on your household size and which group you fit into. Groups include children, pregnant women, parents, other adults, and people who are seniors or have a disability.

Adults ages 19 to 64 can qualify if their household income is at or below 138% of the federal poverty level. Kentucky has covered this group since 2014. Your exact income limit depends on how many people are in your household.

Children and pregnant women can often qualify at higher income levels than other adults. The Kentucky Children’s Health Insurance Program, or KCHIP, covers kids in families that earn too much for regular Medicaid but still need help paying for care.

Seniors and people with disabilities follow different rules. Along with an income limit, there is usually a limit on savings and other resources. For one person, that resource limit is often $2,000.

The best way to know for sure is to use the free screening tool on kynect, Kentucky’s official benefits website. It will ask about your income and household, then tell you if you likely qualify.
