What's Covered?

Kentucky Medicaid covered services

Most Kentucky Medicaid members get a broad set of benefits. Exact coverage depends on your program and plan — always confirm with your MCO.

Doctor visits

Primary care, specialist visits, and preventive care (annual checkups, screenings, vaccinations) are generally covered.

Hospital care

Inpatient hospital stays and outpatient procedures are covered. Some planned procedures may require prior authorization from your MCO.

Emergency services

Emergency room care is always covered — no prior authorization is needed for a true emergency. See Emergency Care

Prescriptions

Most prescription drugs are covered through your plan’s formulary (drug list). Ask your pharmacist if a specific drug is covered.

Mental health & substance use

Behavioral health services including counseling, therapy, and substance use treatment are covered benefits under Kentucky Medicaid.

Dental

Children get comprehensive dental coverage. Adults get limited dental services — check with your MCO for specifics.

Vision

Children get eye exams and eyeglasses. Adults have more limited vision coverage — confirm details with your plan.

Lab & imaging

Blood tests, X-rays, and other diagnostic services ordered by your provider are generally covered.

Non-emergency medical rides

Free transportation to and from covered medical appointments is available through your county’s NEMT broker. Find your driver
