Lost Coverage

If your Medicaid stopped

Coverage can end for different reasons — but you usually have options. Act quickly: the sooner you respond, the more choices you have.

1) Find out why

You should have received a letter or kynect message explaining why coverage ended. Log in to kynect.ky.gov and check your notices and case status. If you didn’t get a notice, your address on file may be outdated.

2) Ask about reinstatement

If your coverage ended recently, you may be able to restore it without starting a new application. Call DCBS at 855-306-8959 or log in to kynect and ask about reinstating your case. Don’t wait — this window is short.

3) Reapply if needed

If reinstatement isn’t an option, you can apply again through kynect.ky.gov. Having been covered before does not affect your eligibility. Use the same process as a new applicant. How to apply

4) Children may still qualify

Even if you don’t qualify for Medicaid, your children might qualify for KCHIP at higher income limits (up to 218% FPL). Apply for them through kynect separately. About KCHIP

5) If you need care right now

ERs are required by federal law to screen and treat you regardless of insurance. For a life-threatening emergency, call 911. For non-emergency care, community health centers often offer sliding-scale fees. Emergency care guide

6) Prevent future gaps

Most coverage losses are caused by missed renewals, outdated addresses, or unreported income changes. Keeping your information current in kynect is the best way to stay covered. How to keep coverage
